In Memoriam Melinda Matzell Grannan

It is with great sadness that we take this moment to feature the life of Melinda Matzell Grannan, one of our Sacred Centers Academy core faculty, a talented artist, devoted yogini, and beloved friend, who passed into the light on August 3rd.

Melinda first came to Sacred Centers around 2013 and we made an immediate connection. She was a beautiful yogini and an excellent teacher with a deep grasp of yoga principles, energy work, and using mudras, breath, and energy medicine to activate the chakras.

It was a joy to get to know her in the many workshops she attended as she worked her way through the program to graduate as a Sacred Centers Teacher in 2018. She had a heart full of love, endless creativity and enthusiasm, and a playful sense of humor. Some of you may have been in a workshop that she attended or assisted!

For her special project required to graduate, Melinda created a beautiful set of chakra banners and chakra greeting cards, combining yoga postures, words of wisdom and her artistic sensibilities.

Melinda also created a Chakra Game that allowed small groups of people to have a good time together exploring the chakras, and deepening their experience through fun little challenges on the path from Earth to Enlightenment.

After graduation, Melinda then created Chakra Energetics, a course that became a requirement for our Co-Heart level of certification, combining chakras, yoga, meridian work, mudras, and more. She also taught the Chakra Yoga Teacher Training at Kripalu with Gwen Rebbeck.

Because I admired Melinda’s talent with graphic arts and also valued her as a friend, she was my first choice for an artist to create the images for the She Rises deck I was working on a few years ago.

We then spent two precious years working together closely, designing the 38 images of women’s archetypes of empowerment. We published the deck in 2022 and she was able to fly out to California to attend the public performance I created for its launch.

Melinda faced her battle with cancer heroically, working with her healers and doctors, and doing whatever it took to fight that demon. Alas, she is now free of that struggle and hopefully at peace on her journey into the light.

Melinda will be deeply missed by all of us at Sacred Centers Academy, but her mark has been left on the body of work we are creating together. She will be remembered with love.
